Get Smart
Is it true that Big Country didn't play at Live Aid because Stuart Adamson and Tony Butler were just about to become dads? If so, what did they have? Their wives, that is.
J. Heath, Liverpool

Well, for a start, the "lads" couldn't have played even if they'd wanted to because they weren't asked! Whyever not? Over to His Sirness, "Saint" Bob Geldof: "I thought they'd broken up, I really did, or I probably would have called them. The decision as to who should appear was nothing to do with my own personal taste - it was current popularity and availability, more to do with how many people would watch them. I think Big Country are a great group, I just thought at the time they'd broken up." So there we have it. But you were almost right - Stuart and Tony both had baby girls in the summer (Kirstin Adamson and Joella Butler). And what's more Stuart also has a four-year-old son called Calum and Tony has a three-year-old son called Alex! Quelle coincidence, eh?!
