Slipped Frames. Mick Karn and Midge Ure have gone right over the top in Egypt filming their 'After A Fashion' video.
Spies report that it's a real Cecil B. de Mille job with a cast of thousands, camels and the usual sphinxes and pyramids. Swarthy actor Omar Sharif was heard to gasp openly and the Egyptian government has invited the dirty duo to play a gig with assorted Arab musos under the pyramids. Mick's even been offered the lead in an Arabian movie and Midge is so jealous he's dubbed himself 'Lawrence Of Chiswick'...

NEWS

Marillion hoe down
MARILLION ARE back in action with a new single next week. The song is called 'Garden Party' and comes out on June 6. It is taken from their 'Script For A Jester's Tear' album, although the B side 'Margaret' is a live track which hasn't been released before.
A 12-inch version features a 13-minute version of 'Margaret' and an extra live number 'Charting The Single'.
Marillion have also recruited a new drummer to replace mick Pointer. The new man is Andy Ward, who was a founder member of Camel.
They are also due to bring out a live video of their last London Hammersmith Odeon concerts. It lasts for an hour and will cost about £20 - although a release date hasn't been finalised.
Marillion take time off from writing new album material to play the Glastonbury Festival on June 17.

TURN ON

TOURS

THE ARMOURY SHOW, featuring ex Skids members Richard Jobson and Russell Webb, have lined up a string of dates for June. They'll be playing Edinburgh Niteclub June 8, Glasgow Night Moves, Aberdeen Venue 10, Dundee Marriot Hall 11, Sheffield Leadmill 12, and London Heaven 13.

TV AND RADIO

FRIDAY'S 'Switch' (C4), pruned down to half an hour because of the election, features Imagination and the Main-T Possee. BBC2's 'Old Grey Whistle Test' has the old and new of pure pop with Nick Lowe and Roman Holliday. And on 'Round Table' (Radio One) Stella Belle Stars and Stuart Adamson join Andy Peebles to mock the latest sounds.

Saturday starts as early as ever with Orange Juice gracing 'Get Set's studio on BBC1. On 'Pop Quiz' on the same channel Tracie sits down with the object of her desire Paul Young and Midge Ure plays gooseberry so they can do battle with Bob Geldof, John Moss and Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins.

DAVID BOWIE 'China Girl' (EMI America)
I can't add much to the countless pages of hacks' ruminations concerning DB, so let me just say that this is doubtless destined to be as subliminally appealing as 'Let's Dance', worming its way into your consciousness without the faintest taint of boredom setting in, even after repeated hearings. A discreet arrangement and unmatchable vocal performance. Start taking notes again, everybody.

HOT VINYL

THE STYLE COUNCIL: ' Money-Go-Round' (Polydor TSCX 2) Paul Weller surprisingly ships up a good jittery driving almost David Joseph-ish 117-118-119-117-119-117bpm 12in disco beat with a long strong jazz-funk brass and piano break, reminiscent of Ian Dury & The Blockheads, while 6T's dancers should appreciate the flip's 'Billy's Bag'-type 155-154bpm organ and piano 'Micks up' instrumental by Mick Talbot. I'm impressed!
