"No Profit In A Peaceful World" album launch event - Fab Café, Manchester, 27th April 2025Oliver Hunter writes: |
When Tony launched his Crowdfund page for his new album, "No Profit In A Peaceful World", I decided to do what I had done for his "My Time" launch and bought the 'VIP Meet & Greet' package. This seemed a good value package, giving the opportunity to meet Tony again and get 'a few' bits signed before a 'Q & A' session, new album playback, intimate acoustic set, CD and T-shirt and extra time to speak to other fans. |

While we waited, the video of the Big Country Peace Concert played on the speakers and TVs over the DJ booth. We got through our beers while chatting about previous events, gigs and discussing what we had brought to get signed. I brought an optomistic pile of 7" singles, 12" singles, albums, CDs and a few programmes. I had only got the programmes signed by Bruce the Friday before, when I saw Big Country at The Roadmender in Northampton! Gaz showed me some pics and vids of a music event in Bristol (which I completely missed), where he had managed to purchase one of Tony's basses (a white one from BC days)! |

John introduced the band - Jackson Hewitt, a modern prog-rock type 4-piece outfit who were really good. They played a selection of songs, including some from their current 'concept' album "Blood+Vitellus", which was available to buy at their 'merchandise stand' along with a selection of T-shirts. I bought their CD, which I can recommend. |

Just before 8.30pm Tony took to the stage again and told us a bit about how the album was written and that he was going to play a short acoustic set on the guitar, playing a few of the songs from the new album, but that it was more of a relaxed party, rather than a concert. Tony had a few 'technical difficulties' with his iPad, and ended up starting with the 'wrong' song first, which he then told everyone afterwards, otherwise we would never have known! It was nice to see Tony playing again but the songs he performed were 'bare bones' versions, that bore little resemblance to the finished album. Tony did explain that it would have cost a fortune to have had a band play with him. |

At the end of the set Tony played "Pink Marshmallow Moon", like he did at the last album launch 8 years previously, though obviously on his own this time. After that he invited
Jackson Hewitt back on to the stage and they all sang "Rockin' In The Free World", which was really good fun.
We hung about a bit until Tony came back out. The crew started to take down the stage and by the time we left at about 10.30pm the bar was back to 'normal' and even more film props and models were visible. We had a quick chat with him, said our goodbyes and made our way back to our hotels. The next day I received an email with a link to the album to download (high quality mp3s - about 10-12MB each track), request for T-shirt size and advising that the CDs would be in the post. I had thought that they might have been given out at the event, but I guess that wasn't logistically possible. The CD will be available to purchase on his new eBay shop, which is going live soon, with all the details and downloads available on Tony's website: https://tonybutlertb.co.uk/ If you spot yourself in any of the photos, let me know and I'll add your name! |
